PAUSE Demand

In collaboration with J-PAL South Asia, the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), and local implementation partners such as Jadavpur University and UHBVNL, we are conducting a series of randomized controlled trial on plug adoption and use in India to glean the potential of automated energy demand response to improve grid reliability and accommodate the increasing supply of variable renewable (such as solar) energy on India’s electricity grid. The pilot program – titled “Plug Adoption and Use for Smarter Energy Demand (PAUSE Demand)” – began in Panchkula in the summer of 2022. A study with Jadavpur University is scheduled to start in the fall of 2023.
